About Dalyan

Dalyan is a unique region in the world with its historical Kaunos Ruins, Rock Tombs, İztuzu Beach, healing thermal waters, mudbaths and unique Köyceğiz Lake. Dalyan town has begun to be found during Border Turks era with the first layouts by the side of the channel combining Köyceğiz Lake to the sea in 750 after Christ .

Dalyan, which has very fertile and watery soils, has been formed by Dalaman Brook’s forming deltas and lagoons at the places where it reaches Mediterranian and Köyceğiz Lake and then alluviums filling of the region as a result of the sea’s ebb and flow.

The name Dalyan comes from the fish plantations that has been founded in those years to appraise the fish that came and went between the sea and the lake, and also comes from having made the grey mullet traps amply.

With its famous shiny sands of 7 km. lenght Iztuzu Beach, where Dalyan Channel meets with Mediterranian Sea, is the place of egg laying for sea turtles, Caretta Caretta. Caretta Carettas put their eggs at this beach every year in April, May, June, July ,then go back to the ocean. With this reason, İztuzu Beach is announced to be a protection land by the private environment protection institution.
